Women can be bartenders, upholds SC

The Supreme Court yesterday upheld the earlier decision of the Delhi High Court to allow wome serving liquor in the bars as bartenders till late night. It also reduced the age limit to 21 years.

The decision which shows the progressiveness in the society brings respectability to the profession as well as social drinking. The lowering age of 21 years also implies that the drinkers can also be 21 years or more.

While ther will always be doubting Thomases, the decision also implies that women are not considered as objects of sex as such breed would like to believe.

Indian Wine Academy has been in favour of women being bartenders as an equal opportunity policy. The drinking age should progressively be decreased from 25 to 21 and then 18. At the same time, the responsible drinking neds to be encouraged. This may not be easy but it may not be age related either.
