Megamart, the erstwhile factory outlet and seconds
discount retail chain of Arvind Brands (owned by Arvind)
is going in for big expansion, which will entail Rs.
400 crore in investment to set up 230 stores in the
next five years.
Megamart will also go through image makeover, though,
without tinkering with its main proposition of selling
merchandise at discounted prices. Instead of selling
seconds at discounted prices, as at present, Megamart
will now offer unsold stocks of other stores at discounts.
It will be able to do so as in the apparel business,
premium priced clothes due to fast changing fashion
trends become unsalable in a short time.
Megamart is also going in for image makeover. Apart
from exuding youthful environment, its stores will look
modern and bright.
Megamart chain, which currently operates 70 value stores
across the country, occupying about 2,50,000 sq. ft.
of retail space, is also going in for large format Megamart
Outlet Centre stores. Each of these Centres to be located
in mega and metro cities of the country, will occupy
over 50, 000 sq.ft. of space.
While, prime properties in Chennai, Hyderabad and
Pune have already been booked, several more properties
in other cities will soon be signed-up by the company.
Megamart expects have about 30 Megamart Outlet Centres
operating in top 20 cities of the country, by 2012.
Arvind has tied up with design house JHP - London for
designing these stores and is investing heavily on training
the front-end staff to man the same.
The Megamart Outlet Centres at Chennai, Hyderabad and
Pune, for which properties have already been booked,
will become operational this fiscal.
