A scene at Anuga 2007 |
When you look at the mass of humanity going up and
down the various confusing stairways leading into numerous
entrances, you would think that they are rushing around
in aimless frenzy. In fact, they are racing against
time, visiting one or more of the 10 concurrently organised
Shows and trying to keep the appointments.
Many Shows under one roof
Anuga Fine Foods is of course, the biggest of them
all with over 3500 participants. Meats products and
Drinks are the next in terms of size with participation
of 740 and 508 international companies. Drinks
has a negligible presence of wine. Apparently, the annually
held in Düsseldorf, Prowein has been universally
accepted as the international wine show of Germany.
Other Fairs within the gambit of this mega event are
Frozen Foods (465), Bakery and Hot Beverages (390),
Dairy (367), Catering/ Retail (271), progressively gaining
in importance- Organic (252) and Chilled Foods (103)..
Statistics tell a story
The host country Germany boasted 1098 exhibitors out
of a total of record 6607 participants. In fact, say
the organisers, the show is bursting at its seams and
they may not be able to expand much more in the future
due to space limitation. A total of 304, 000sq meters
area has already been dedicated to the Trade-only Messe.
At Prowein the German participants are clear leaders
with 786 exhibitors out of a total of 3041 participants,
with foreign participation shared by Italy (644) and
France (482). Here at Anuga, a total of 1050 Italian
exhibitors underlined the importance of this show by
almost sharing top honours with the hosts (1078). Spain
(477) and China (463 not counting 16 from Hong Kong
) were also major exhibiting nations.
Greece (270), France (244), Netherlands (210) and Belgium
were also ahead in the pack.

The India and 'Indien' signage with
52 exhibitors busy in welcoming an unending stream of
visitors was a happy sign. After all, Anuga is considered
a Mecca for the food industry the world over. Said Yogesh
Bellani, a Business head of one of the major exhibitors,
Kohinoor Rice of Delhi based Satnam Overseas Ltd., 'We
have done extremely well at Anuga in the past, with
our ready-to-eat product range doing extremely well
here. We cannot imagine not taking part here.'
'In fact, we always make our bookings for the next
show on the conclusion of the show and we intend to
repeat this year too,' he informed me. They have added
frozen foods to their portfolio and Bellani was extremely
pleased with the response. Food tasting live is an important
aspect of the show with them, which is a big draw.
