Delhi Restaurateur Knighted by Italian Government

Tarsillo Nataloni, the Italian chef-turned owner of Flavors Restaurant in Delhi has been knighted by the Italian Government for his contribution to the development of commercial relations between Italy and India.

Ordine della Stella della Solidarietà Italiana, translated into a bland ‘Knight of Italian Republic’ was awarded to him on October 10, 2007, by H.E. Vice President of Italian Council of Government Ministers, Minister of External affairs, Mr. Giorgio D’Alema in Delhi.

The ‘humbled, but pleased by such unexpected recognition of my commitment for the last 15 years in India’ Nataloni is a very happy man and could not contain his pleasure when I called to congratulate him.

Always a hands-on manager, he was shopping early Saturday morning at Ghaffar market, sourcing for the wine glasses he wants to use at the Sopexa sponsored wine promotion starting on October 15.

The Italian cuisine restaurant in the Defence Colony Community Center in the Moolchand Complex caters to young-to not-so young crowd who relish Italian cuisine in an informal atmosphere. The decade old eatery has stepped up its efforts to encourage more people to drink wine-preferably Italian. His 60-odd label list is filled with two-thirds of Italian wines some of which are exotic. Many value for money wine nuggets can be found in his list by a knowledgeable connoisseur.

Sopexa is trying to change the face of the list by encouraging him to add more French wines which are a distant second in his list.

Nataloni, born in Puglia is more Indian than Italian. ‘I feel motivated to do a lot more and better in future,’ he added. He is married to an Indian who has 'really educated me a lot’ admits Tarsillo.

DelWine congratulates him and wishes him well in promoting Italian gastronomy.
