While second quarter profit at the New York based company
rose 9.2%, this was due solely to an increase in spirits
and beer sales in the US, adds the website.
By comparison wine sales in both the United States
and United Kingdom markets fell, delivering a 37% drop
in total sales to US$892.6 million. Spirits sales for
the same period were up 25%, and beer sales continued
to meet strong growth predictions.
Constellation owns Nobilo in New Zealand and BRL Hardy
in Australia, as well. It also owns Vincor of Canada
with Robert Mondavi as the latest acqisition making
it the biggest wine company in the world.
Inniskillin is Vincor's prized winery making the world
famous icewine. Nobilo and Hardy are imported by Sula
in India, while Sonarys imports the Mondavi label-though
more of their basic wines.
