Wine Museum in Mosel turns interactive with multimedia

The new avatar of the former wine museum of Bernkastel Kues, 'Multimedia Wine World of experience, Wine Cultural Land Mosel', was inaugurated last Thursday in the former wine museum of Bernkastel Kues.

Whereas in the past, only technical equipment and information was presented, the visitors will now be able to visit a virtual world of wine.

The museum combines wine producing traditions with state-of-the-art media technology, guiding the visitor visually around the Mosel wine growing region by means of terminals, numerous LCD and plasma screens and touch-screen displays. An aroma bar ensures a visit to the museum is a festival of the senses.

The project was developed and executed by the research institute as well as the faculty of wine college in Geisenheim, together with the University of Wiesbaden. The world-famous research centre at Geisenheim is responsible for the scientific and factual quality of the almost 1000 pages of information which will be available in English by the end of the year, in order to provide foreign visitors information on wine culture in the Mosel valley.

Twenty stations covering the topics of landscape, wine and culture take the wine lover through this wonderful world of wine in a couple of hours.

If you would like to fly above the Mosel a huge 70 inch screen provides a virtual flight over the Mosel valley, made possible using orthographic and vineyard maps drawn up by the geologists at the state office for geology and mining in Mainz.

The themes of the other stations include terroir, history, landscape and geology, growing wine on steep slopes, grape varieties, VIPs of the Mosel, vine nurseries, Mosel impressions, interactive vine pruning, information on cellar technology, an aroma bar, sensory appreciation, marketing, presentation and packaging, wine storage and maturation, wine and health, wine culture including wine and food, wine and glass, wine etiquette and festivals in the region.

Movie fans can look forward to interesting wine movies in home movie format, and a vinotheque is available if you want to buy a bottle of wine.

The long-term objective is to provide better networking of wine producers, trade and sales for the Mosel region, the museum is an excellent way of learning about wine and the region and is a must for Indian wine lovers transiting through Frankfurt on business or pleasure- Mosel is one of the most important regions of Germany producing excellent white wines-especially Rieslings. A visit to the museum will be an added attraction.
