Barone Ricasoli : A Baron and a Classico Wine in Chianti

Castello di Brolio-are there any ghosts inside this castle?

'Do they have a ghost of Brolio', is the curious universal question. Is he peaceful? Does he come riding on a white horse?' Baron smiles and promises us to show us something.

But then changes his mind. Perhaps, si serve another visit to the Castello. Baron Francesco Ricasoli, the 32 nd in line Baron has been a perfect host and gentleman.

Wines Tasted

1. Torricella Chardonnay IGT 2006: Only white wine produced. 'When we arrived in 1993, we inherited this vineyard. We decided to make it work for us and so a lot of hard work has gone into it. I am very comfortable with this wine.'

Golden yellow, brilliant, clean, unconventional Chardonnay with tropical fruit. One could feel 14% alcohol on the
Castello di Barolo Chianti Classico 2001-a perfect match with antipasti
gullet and in the nose. This was perhaps due to the wine being served at room temperature. "we like to serve our wines at room temperature to professionals tasting because this helps them detect flaws more easily. Decent after taste. Food wine to be served at 10-12 ° C Rating ()

2. Brolio Chianti Classico 2005: Made from 100% Sangiovese. Very dark colour, spicy aromas carrying on to the black cherry flavour, ripe tannins with great mouthfeel and persistent aftertaste, very approachable wine Rating ()

3. Castello di Brolio Chianti Classico 2003: 80% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet+ Merlot. 13.5% alc. Much more intense than Brolio. Well extracted. Elegant. It could qualify for a Riserva, not so classified. Dances on the mid palate, long aftertaste. Rating ()

4. Casalferro IGT 2003: Super Tuscan with 70% Sangiovese, 30% Merlot. Extremely dark and inky, full bodied with a spicy, floral bouquet. Excellent mouthfeel, good balance and harmony.

Complex and long after-taste. Rating ()
