The Corporacion Vitivinicola Argentina said Wednesday
that, based on the results of the first seven months
of the year, exports of bottled wine from the country
were up by over 37% compared to the same time last year.
The wine industry in Argentina is on target to break
the barrier of US$400m in exports for 2007 compared
to US$215m the previous year, the trade body said. It
expects exports to hit US$2bn by 2020.
The growth is due to the rising popularity of Argentina's
wines in the US, the UK and Canada.
Argentina has achieved what delWine has been predicting
all along-it has been a sleeping giant. Well, the giant
has woken up and is getting all set to crash records
and create minor problems for its friendly neighbour
Chile which has been charging ahead with exports during
the last 15 years.
Though the reliable figures are not yet available,
it has been increasing its presence in India with Moet
and Hennessy and Global leading the pack for argentine
wine imports. Value-for-money is cited the main reason
for the imports.
