International
Wine Challenge is presumably the world’s biggest
blind tasting wine competition. Held by the Wine &
Spirit, it boasts 9358 wines which were entered this
year to win only 260 gold medals.
Robert Joseph, the well known British wine expert and
author who has written several books on wine had started
this event in 1984 along with fellow English author
Charles Metcalfe and made it a successful brand till
2005. He has also been the author of similar Challenges
in Singapore, Russia China and Japan.
Robert is launching the Indian version at IFE-India
2007 to be held in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from December
6-8. Robert was in India last December at IFE as a keynote
speaker at the wine conference organised by the Indian
Wine Academy. He visited major wine producers and was
convinced that the time is right to start the competition
in India.
Christened
as the Indian Wine Challenge the first edition will
be chaired by Robert Joseph in association with Montgomery
International, organisers of IFE-India- racing ahead
with increasing wine participation every year.
All wines sold in India are eligible to enter, including
imported wines. A nominal entry is charged at $160 a
label. Every participant in IFE may submit one wine
free of charge. The deadline for submission is August
24th for the foreign wines to be delivered in London.
There are no limits on the number of wines that can
be entered so long as at least 1,000 liters are available
for sale, to be eligible to enter. The wines must be
made from 100% grapes grown in the country in which
the wine bottle is produced. A few exceptions are there.
Details are to be made available soon. Those who are
interested may contact the organisers at biancha.fischer@montex.co.uk
