Even
before the details of recently concluded franchise agreement
between Bharti Retail and Wal-Mart could sink in, Wal-Mart
seems to be getting ready to provide similar technical
services for front-end management to other Indian retail
players.
Wal-Mart is in talks with existing retailers operating
50-100 stores with turnover of a few crore rupees. Wal-Mart
could announce a deal for such an arrangement later
next year when it opens its first wholesale store with
Bharti.
" (A) few players have approached us for technical
expertise. We are in talks with some big players in
Indian retail space for it," says Wal-Mart Country
President India Raj Jain.
"I don't know what kind of expertise they would
require," said Jain when asked about the possibility
of extending such expertise to either Ambanis of Reliance
or Biyani of Future Group.
The agreement to provide technical expertise to Bharti
Retail was not exclusive and the joint venture could
as such provide its services to other retailers.
"There is a market for consultancy. We are open
to providing it to other retailer, even to local kirana,"
he said, adding many companies entering the retail segment
were facing problems in the supply chain.
