Deomos
Imaging , a satellite imaging company which will see
it's satellite being launched from India shortly, is
supplying technology that will help vineyard management
in Spain, says the Spanish website typicallyspanish.com
One of the first clients for the new clients for the
new company is the Jerez Official Area Wine Board, who
will use satellite observation to keep a watch on their
vines.
The application will allow them to see if any building
or rubbish tip is encroaching close to their vineyards.
Using photographs taken as often as every 20 minutes,
the system will also be able to give an early warning
of any illness or infection affecting the vines.
Jerez, is the Sherry capital of Spain. Sherry can legally
be produced only in and around this Andalucian city
in the south of Span. The word Jerez is the Arabic equivalent
of sherry.
Deomos is run by Pedro Francesco Duque, a two time
astronaut from Madrid. His first spaceflight was as
a mission specialist aboard space shuttle mission STS-95,
during which Duque supervised ESA experimental modules.
In October 2003, Duque had visited the International
Space Station for several days during a crew changeover.
A private company is already offering a similar satellite
service in the United States.
