To the 2000 Lungarotti San Giorgio Vino da Tavola Umbria , The Wine Advocate gives 91 points and notes:
A Sangiovese and Cabernet blend, powerful, dark, impressive in its notes of red and blackberry fruit, leather, and minerals, powerful and intense on the palate, with a sizeable, authoritative finish. It will need a bit of additional bottle time, and will drink well from 2007 to 2018.
To the 2001 Lungarotti Rubesco Rosso di Torgiano , the journal awards 87 points and has even better things to say:
(Before you read what Parker has to say, it may be useful to remember that the Rubesco goes brilliantly with North Indian kebabs and curries.) Some of the best news coming out of central Italy in recent years, notes The Wine Advocate , is the comeback being staged by Lungarotti, an important player in the 1970s and 1980s before a period of drift set in. The 2000 wines are the best since 1985, and the 2001 vintage promises to be even better, as the 2001 Rubesco, which is the regular bottling, indicates in its fresh and elegant aromas of red berry fruit, fine continuity and length on the palate, and ripe, savoury flavours. Already drinking well, it should continue to do so for another three or four years. |
