Taj Hotels to buy Ritz Carlton - San Francisco?

The appetite of Taj Group hotels to acquire fabulous running properties overseas has been well whetted with the recent acquisition of the 273- room Ritz Carlton, Boston, now rechristened as Taj Boston.

There are unconfirmed reports that the Group is in advanced stage of negotiations with the Ritz Carlton Company for outright purchase of its swanky hotel in San Francisco . The 336-room five star property has been recently renovated at an expense of US $12.5 million. Strategically located in the prestigious Nob Hill, in the heart of San Francisco , it is the only Mobil Five-Star, AAA Five Diamond hotel in the city.

Next time you are travelling to San Francisco , you might be considering staying at Taj San Francisco!

Closer to home, the group is in the process of setting up a hotel in Gurgaon and Noida, well before the 2010 commonwealth games.

Besides, Taj Boston, the group also runs another Luxury Hotel, the 201-room Taj Pierre in New York , in the US . The Group is owned by  The Indian Hotels, a Tata company.

At the other end, the company has already started promoting the 'Ginger' brand across the country by setting up properties targeting the mass market. It plans to set up in 25 destinations across the country, with each property costing between Rs 10 crore to Rs 12 crore.

Ginger is already present in Bangalore , Bhubaneswar , Hardwar , Mysore , Tiruvananthapuram and Mysore . The first Ginger Hotel in West Bengal was inaugurated at Durgapur on March 8.

The brand is targeted at the middle class traveler in the business and leisure segment.

Tariff for a single room is a uniform Rs 999 and Rs 1199 for a double room (Rs. 50 discount applies for booking on the Net).
