Britain's Science Minister Lord Sainsbury of Turville, who was in New Delhi last month, has bought a vineyard in Burgundy and hired Jeremy Seysses, Domaine Dujac's producer, to make wine for his private consumption, reports www.decanter.com.
In a deal valued at £300,000, Sainsbury hopes to produce fine wine within two years from the vineyard at Vosne-Romanée, near Dijon . The vineyard will produce 400 bottles a year. Lord Sainsbury has an estimated wealth of between £1bn and £2bn, predominantly from the family supermarket chain. He stepped down as Sainsbury's Chairman when he was made Science Minister in Tony Blair's first government in 1998.
