Somanda Vineyards gets ready for 6th Harvest and SulaFest 2019

Jan 31: Preparations for SulaFest 2019 being organised by Sula Vineyards on February 2-3, are in full swing to receive over 16,000 guests, but as a spill-over effect many will also visits the other two close-by wineries- York and Somanda Vineyards which started its 6th harvest today with Pinot Noir and is getting ready to receive visitors at its winery over the week-end though with House-Full sign on both its resort properties-Regenta Resort Soma Vine Village and V Resorts, writes Subhash Arora who plans to visit Nashik again this weekend

SulaFest is the most exciting world music gourmet festival in India with ever-increasing crowd coming not only from Nashik and Mumbai but music loving wine tourists from all over India ( I know a group of 5 couples from Delhi  of previous generation have confirmed the visit to me, for instance). A vast majority comes to enjoy the music, wine, food and to soak in the eclectic atmosphere but many of them also like to visit other wineries, taking advantage of their visit. York and Somanda are right on the Wine Road-defined by delWine as Route 1- Sula, York, Somanda (for more enterprising tourists there are Grover Zampa Vineyards and Vallonne about 30 kms before Nashik and designated by delWine as part of 5 wineries -Route 2).

It is pretty nigh impossible to find a place in any of their resorts-Sula Source Resort  is already full  as is Somanda with its beautiful  Regenta Resort Soma Vine Village,  the property managed earlier by Sula as ‘Beyond by Sula’,  and the 3- villa complex constructed by the owner of Somanda, Pradeep Pachpatil. , managed by V Resorts. But he is gearing up to receive many of the guests who come from SulaFest to the winery because of its beautiful surroundings and a vast variety-it’s located right on the vineyard and has a swimming pool and individual villa pools too.

Somanda also has an adventure park, right outside its property which has several sports and gaming facilities including Go-Karting, thoroughly enjoyable for families and children. Two restaurants-Surahi at Regenta Resort Soma Vine Village and Shiraz in the winery block with multi-cuisine dishes offer food at reasonable prices and astounding view of the vineyard and the Gangapur dam in the yonder. It is also a great opportunity to check out the winery even for future visits and purchases in Mumbai. The winery has a lot of focus on the weddings and corporate bashes as well.

There are special winery visits and tastings at a nominal charge of Rs. 350 for 5 wines and Rs. 500 for the Reserve wines. Celebrating the completion of 5th year, the winery is offering 20% discount on the complete Reserve range at its wine take-away counter at the winery. This includes Pinot Noir, Zinfandel Reserve, Shiraz Reserve, Riesling Reserve, Brut Reserve and Chardonnay.  In a short span of 5 years, Somanda (also known as Soma Vine Village) has developed 21 different wine brands of various verities to suit most indulgent Indian palates.  And in this year they plan to increase the production capacity by 60%. Who says Indian wine industry is stagnating?

The winery currently is also proud to have two Italian travelling Winemakers Luca & Allessandra who many would love to meet-I would surely try to find time and meet them. Both of them have extensive knowledge and experience of winemaking to give excellent inputs to improve the quality of Somanda. Both completed their studies in Viticulture & Oenology from University of Milan and have worked in Franciacorta, Piedmont, Umbria and Parma in Italy. Besides, they worked in New Zealand, Champagne, Burgundy, Western Australia,  and England before coming to India and are well attuned to the Indian scenario and helping Pachpatil improve the quality further .

An exciting week-end ahead for wine novice and connoisseurs who also love music, and are heading towards Nashik this weekend.

And remember, the best condition a wine bottle is in, is always at the winery. After that it is downhill because of temperature variations. So do stock up as many wine bottles as you can. For details, visit: http://www.somavinevillage.com/
