Alain Ducasse lists GroverZ wines at Paris Restaurant

Dec 23: Grover Zampa Vineyards, the second largest wine producer of India has added another feather in its cap and brought some glory to the Indian wine industry by getting listed in one of the top luxury restaurants in Paris - Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée, with the Grover Zampa’s La Reserve duo of both Red, and White wines, according to a company announcement

Grover la Reserve is a flagship wine that has been a workhorse since 1998. It was also selected by the well-known British critic Steven Spurrier and contributor for Decanter as the Best Red New World Wine during a Tasting in Germany in August 2005 for the 2004 vintage. For several years, it used to be considered the best value red wine in India, selling between Rs. 400-450. The prices were gradually increased till they reached Rs. 750-800 a couple of years ago. Last year when the new and more elegant label was changed, the price was hiked to bring it to Rs. 1000, in line with the other super-premium wines in India.

Grover La Reserve Blanc is a late entrant launched a couple of years ago ostensibly to capitalise on the global brand image of La Reserve. It uses primarily Viognier grapes fermented in oak barrels.  Both the wines have been winning medals increasing the total medal tally to around 100 since 2013 when GVZ started taking part in international competitions with gusto. In 2017 alone, GVZ Vineyards has won 21 awards at many prestigious competitions including the Hong Kong International Wines and Spirits Competition (HKIWSC) and Decanter Asia Wine & Spirits Awards (DAWA).

Ducasse au Plaza Athénée is one of the top luxury restaurants in Paris. It is owned by the well-known and much celebrated Monaco-born French chef, Alain Ducasse who boasts of a cluster of 19 Michelin stars to his credit. Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée in Paris has been one of the Top 50 Restaurants in the world, securing 12th position in April this year by the slightly controversial but influential Restaurant Guide which includes India’s Top Restaurant, Indian Accent at the 78th position. Apart from the provocative cuisines and the 2 recent Grover Zampa wines, the restaurant also stocks a big wine list of extravagant wines of different vintages and tastes, along with vintages some of which are even 55 years old; Grover Zampa Vineyards can proudly claim to be a part of this attractive list.

Speaking about the recent association, Ravi Viswanathan, Director, Grover Zampa Vineyards reportedly said “It gives me immense pleasure in stating that we are now associated with Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée. These listings will not only help us expand our international reach but also give Indian wines the recognition and appreciation they deserve. ”
