Wine Club for Women Launched in Mumbai

W3-Wine, Women and Wit, presumably India’s first-ever women’s wine club was launched at the Rendezvous, Taj Mahal Hotel Mumbai last Wednesday, with plans announced to open similar clubs in Delhi by February and Bangalore by April 2010. Bindu Malhotra, President of Terroir One, Mumbai Chapter of the Delhi Wine Club, reports.

L-R – Gul Panag(Patron Member), Chandni Dhall(Partner –W3), Kiran Patil (Patron Member), Dharti Desai(Founder –W3)and Anjanna Kuthiala (Patron Member)

When I got the invitation card for the event, I had a sense of déjà vu. Only last month we had launched the Terroir One and the style of the invitation card brought alive memories of the event. But I felt very happy that W-3 would also be focusing on wine as a part of the lifestyle. Of course, it was interesting and heartening to see that the membership was exclusively for women, in a way empowering women and in a way maintaining a unique identityi.

Members of the Terroir One were all invited for the launch and it was heartening to see about 25 of them making it through the traffic snarl to Colaba; only the suburbanites and South Mumbaikars know what that feels like as they face and live with it every day.. Once we were there though, the evening turned very pleasant and enjoyable. The venue was packed and bustling with people busy chatting over glasses of wine.

Rocky and Mayur of the ‘Highway on my Plate’ fame on the  NDTV Good Times were conducting the evening and regaling the guests with their wit and were more than apt in keeping the wit part of the event alive.

W-3 is a company founded by two women entrepreneurs, Dharti Desai-importer and owner of FineWinesnMore and Chandni Dhall, wife of Vikram Dhall, another importer-Dhall Foods- based in Delhi. Chandni comes from the family of the well-known Moti Mahal restaurants family.

‘Wine, Women and Wit is a lifestyle company engaged in organizing special events around wine and related lifestyle experiences. We aim to revolutionize the tradition of wine-drinking in India by setting up an inner circle of wine lovers, who crave more than just fine wines,’ says Dharti.

Gul Panag, Anjana Kuthaliya, Shekhar Suman and Nisha Zaveri were a few of the celebrity faces who seemed to be thoroughly enjoying the evening. Another star was Hemant Oberoi the celebrity corporate chef of the Taj Group who won the hearts of everyone with his excellent food preparations. He was of course helped by Canard Duchene Champagne and red wines like Marquis de Riscal from Spain which were the darlings of the invitees.

Dharti explained to me that the Club had two levels of membership- Sparkling and Rose, costing Rs.25,000 and Rs.50,000 respectively with many privileges through their current 27 partners. There would be wine appreciation sessions onducted, Desai informed, adding that FWM also planned to initiate wine sales through the club, offering special deals to its members.
