Wine History: Traces of 5000 year old Grapes discovered in Georgia
June 21: Traces of 5000 year old grape pollen were reportedly found inside an animal-shaped ceramic jar discovered recently in an archaeological site 100 kms from the Georgian Capital of Tbilisi. It was presumably used in ritual ceremonies, suggesting that grapes were fermented then in Georgia, already known as the Cradle of Wine and thus boosting the claim of Georgians to be the oldest wine making country in the world.
