The
tiny city state of Singapore stands out in terms of
sophistication in wine consumption. It has the highest
average import value of wine in the world, reports a
study by Vinexpo. At US$16/litre this is three times
higher than India, thirteen times higher than China
and fourteen times higher than France.
Ms Christine Gilguy, Deputy Chief Editor of the French
Commerce magazine, Le MOCI reporting the statistics
on wine at Vinexpo recently, also added that French
wine exports to Singapore jumped by 43% to €360
million in 2006. This is more than 3 times the value
of French wine exports to China which stood at €100
million the same year.
“This makes Singapore an important regional platform
for French wine exports to Asia”, she expressed.
The significance of Singapore to French wine exports
has made the Singex organized, Singapore based annual
wine show, Wine For Asia 2007 a natural business platform
for the French wineries to reach out to the Asian wine
market. The excellent wine logistics infrastructure
and the sophistication in wine consumption in Singapore
are advantages that the wineries participating in Wine
for Asia 2007 can ride on.
“To accommodate this growing interest in the
Asia Pacific, Wine for Asia 2007 is glad to welcome
a new French national pavilion. We will see a comprehensive
representation of French wines, from the grand crus
and AOC wines to distinctive Vins de Pays, from the
traditional “assemblage wines” to “new
wave styles” concocted by a new generation of
innovative wine makers blending the top of the range
to value-for-money, ready-to-drink wines,” says
Serene Ho, Senior Project Manager, Wine For Asia 2007.
Wine for Asia 2007 is a comprehensive international
wine exhibition that presents a full range of wines
from all over the world. Last year 433 international
exhibitors participated from 22 countries. A total of
15,000 visitors, including 4273 trade professionals
from 30 countries visited the trade event.
The 5th Edition takes place at Singapore Expo, Singapore
from 25 to 27 October 2007.
